Mike Slade
(ACA Chartered Accountant)

Mike started in practice in New Zealand in 1988 after several years in commerce, and he’s been a Chartered Accountant since 1989. He sold his thriving accounting firm based on the Coromandel peninsula near Auckland in 1998 to move to the UK to be closer to family living in Essex. Mike became finance director for a food manufacturer in Suffolk, then managed the national client accounting division of a prominent UK-wide estate agency firm, before a spell in the leisure industry.

Since 2004 Mike and his partner, Annabel Barry, have built a rental property portfolio and his first-hand experience of the challenges that face landlords and developers enable him to offer clients effective and practical advice, and not just related to tax!

Mike launched Accounting Kiwi Limited in 2010 with the aim of giving clients an outstanding service backed by a dedicated, friendly and professional team. He acquired the present accounting business, based in Rayleigh, in 2011 which trades as Mike Slade & Co Chartered Accountants.

Mike says “I want our clients to benefit from the Kiwi “can do” business attitude, our reliability for top class service and sound professional advice, and our open friendly working style. Accounting Kiwi is all about people and sums up who we are and what we do.”

Away from the business Mike enjoys cycling, touring in his campervan with Annabel, and renovating property. He’s follows the fortunes of Liverpool FC, and is a keen supporter of the All Blacks as you would expect!

Tabby Barry

Tabby joined the team in August 2014 as a junior office assistant. She is now an Accounts Technician and she manages client bookkeeping and VAT, client payrolls and CIS tax, and assists in accounts preparation.

Having graduated from Canterbury University with an arts degree Tabby changed careers to finance and accountancy. After initially studying at AAT level Tabby got hooked by the accounting bug, and is currently working towards the ACA Chartered Accountant qualification.

Tabby produced the firms Christmas card design in 2014 and likes to keep her creative hand in.

When she’s not helping clients with a VAT problem or swotting for exams, Tabby enjoys going to the gym, walking and enjoying her movies, music and art.

Lisa Lindsay

Lisa came aboard in March 2016. In her role as an Accounts Technician Lisa manages client bookkeeping and VAT and assists with accounts preparation. She is currently studying towards an AAT qualification.

Lisa and her husband also own rental property, and away from the office Lisa balances a hectic life with three children. To relax she bakes cupcakes, Red Velvets being a speciality!

Prior to joining our team Lisa trained in counselling and our clients really appreciate those soft skills from time to time.

Julia Edwards
(ACA Chartered Accountant, MAAT Tax Professional)

Julia joined the firm in July 2021. She is a qualified ACA chartered accountant and MAAT tax professional with practice experience across many businesses and industry sectors. Julia has a special interest in property related businesses, and she brings a huge amount of enthusiasm and knowledge to help our clients improve their business and save tax.

Julia is also extremely proficient with cloud based bookkeeping and accounting software, including Xero, Kashflow, Free Agent, Sage and Quickbooks to name a few, and is ready to help clients navigate these from initial set up right through to integration with other systems.

Outside of work Julia enjoys the outdoors, reading and music.
