GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into effect on 25th May 2018, and replace current data protection legislation. These have been further updated from 10th January 2020 with the Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive.

All businesses in the UK will be affected by GDPR irrespective of size. Business owners and managers should make themselves aware of the requirements of GDPR and, where they hold or handle data covered by GDPR, there is a requirement to ensure the business complies with the regulations.

Examples of how your business may be affected include:

• As an employer holding employee personal data.
• Holding customer or supplier personal data.
• Engaging subcontractors who handle personal data.
• As a contractor handling personal data for someone else.

Penalties for breaching the regulations are potentially very high, so it pays to ensure your business is compliant. More information can be found on the ICO website
